Curly Hair Type and Care - Part II

Styling Tips for Curly Hair Types 3 and 4

Welcome back to Part 2 of our series on understanding and embracing your curly hair. In this installment, we'll focus on styling tips for Type 3 (Curly) and Type 4 (Coily) hair, providing you with expert advice and product recommendations to make your curls stand out.

Type 3 (Curly) Hair

Type 3 curly hair ranges from loose, buoyant loops to tight, springy corkscrews, offering a variety of styling possibilities.

For Type 3A hair, characterized by large, loose curls, emphasize curl texture by using SGX NYC Curl Power Nourishing Curl Cream. Avoid touching your curls to prevent frizz. Maintain these curls with a curl refresher like Carol's Daughter Hair Milk Nourishing & Conditioning Refresher Spray.

Type 3B hair features springy ringlets, similar in circumference to a Sharpie marker. Keep it moisturized with curl gels containing humectants like Mielle Organics Honey & Ginger Styling Gel or Curls Goddess Botanical Gel for defined, hydrated curls.

Type 3C curls are tight corkscrews that start at the roots, with dense, well-defined S-bends. Combat frizz with sulfate-free co-washes like Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Shea Hydrating Co-Wash, and layer a leave-in conditioner with a mousse like Verb Curl Leave-In Conditioner and Design Essentials Natural Almond & Avocado Curl Enhancing Mousse for clumped, hydrated curls.

Type 4 (Coily) Hair

Type 4 coily hair, also known as Afro-textured or kinky hair, features tight, small curls or zig-zags from the scalp.

Type 4A hair boasts dense springy coils, similar in circumference to a crochet needle. Maintain this texture with the Hair Rules Kinky Curling Cream and Hair Rules Nourishment Leave-In Moisturizer combination for defined yet soft strands.

Type 4B hair consists of densely packed coils that can bend sharply like the letter Z. Shape your coils with Vernon François Mist Nourishing Water or Crème of Nature Coconut Milk Curl Hydrating Curling Cream for texture definition and elongation.

Type 4C hair has tightly coiled strands with significant shrinkage. Combat dryness with leave-in moisturizers like SheaMoisture Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter Curl Stretch Pudding and seal in hydration with SheaMoisture 100% Pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil for maximum length.

Understanding your curl type and adopting the right styling techniques and products will help you rock your unique curls with confidence. Stay tuned for more tips and insights on curly hair care and styling.
